About the Department:
The Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE) provides expertise and leadership in learning, teaching, and assessment. Offering a range of services to support staff to transform the student experience, and tailored learning support for students. The department empowers others to adopt pedagogical practices that enhance learning and teaching across SOAS. The team engages in evidence-informed and student-centred approaches, and works in community with academic and professional services departments, and the wider student body, to foster spaces for collaboration, empowerment and reflection.
About the Role
As a member of the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) team within Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE), this role provides specialist support in multimedia design, production, and implementation for teaching, learning, and assessment. The role focuses on helping staff integrate multimedia content including video, audio, and animation into their learning activities, digital materials, and broader teaching strategies. The post-holder will support academic staff in creating high-quality multimedia resources, deliver training on effective multimedia use in education, including facilitating the use of multimedia and podcasting studios, promote personal capture technologies, and support flipped learning methodologies. Additionally, the role involves contributing to institutional digital learning strategies as outlined in the SOAS Education Strategy, supporting research-informed multimedia practices, and ensuring alignment with pedagogical principles as well as accessibility and inclusivity standards.
This is a staff- and student-facing role, working closely with various stakeholders to enhance the digital learning experience across the institution.
Key responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and support multimedia-based learning and assessment solutions, ensuring alignment with the institution’s evolving Education Strategy and LTE’s priorities, including accessibility & inclusivity, and online & distance learning.

Collaborate with academic staff to identify opportunities for integrating video, audio, animation, and other multimedia formats into teaching, learning activities, and digital content creation, including the use of multimedia and podcasting studios while ensuring adherence to inclusive and accessible design principles.

Provide proactive digital learning support, including contributions to the LTE service desk, ensuring timely responses to staff and student needs.

Design, deliver, and evaluate staff and student training on creating and using multimedia for teaching, learning, and engagement, with a focus on personal capture and flipped learning methodologies.

Provide specialist advice and support on the development and use of audio/video submissions for assessment and feedback, ensuring their effective integration into both in-person and remote learning contexts while maintaining accessibility and usability for all students.

Engage in data collection and analysis to inform LTE and institutional decision-making regarding multimedia-based learning, identifying trends and opportunities for enhancement.

About you
Knowledge and experience
Essential

Educated to degree level, or have equivalent qualifications or substantial relevant experience.
Experience of supporting digital learning.
Experience of working in Higher Education, in a customer care environment.
Knowledge of learning technology systems and processes (including Moodle).
Understanding of current HEI legislation.
Knowledge linking other IT systems and processes e.g. student records systems, exams, assessments, identity management, third party plugins.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise effectively.
Proactive and able to generate new ideas and recommendations for change/ improvement.
Expertise in wide range of multimedia software and systems.
Ability to use and troubleshoot on PC and Mac for multimedia.
An understanding of web accessibility principles and their application to the creation of accessible multimedia content.
