Argus, a leading provider of energy and commodity markets information, wants to find a small number of brilliant graduates to join a paid journalism training programme at our busy central-London office.

If you have a curious and analytical mind, a strong work ethic and an interest in how markets work this could be an exciting opportunity for you.

Our six-month programme will provide you with training in commodity markets journalism, market analysis, news writing and market reporting. At the end of the six months, successful trainees will be promoted to reporters.

The scheme will provide you with:

Intensive news-writing training
Exposure to different commodities which could include oil, metals, fertilizers, electricity and gas
Skills to build, curate and interpret data sets that help explain market dynamics
The confidence to contribute to producing price assessments, news, market analysis

By the end of the programme, you will need to demonstrate proficiency in reporting and writing breaking news, and in analysing markets for market commentaries.

If you graduate to reporter, you will be expected to:

Monitor and assess markets to produce news, analysis, price assessments and market commentaries
Analyse data to create insights into global commodity trade
Speak to producers, buyers, traders and other key market sources to share market intelligence
Travel locally and abroad to attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus Media

Qualifications, Skills and Experience needed:

A minimum 2.1 undergraduate degree in any discipline
Fluency in English – other European languages are an advantage
Strong research and analytical skills
Demonstrable interest in global business, politics and economics
Ability to learn quickly and work to tight deadlines
Inquisitive by nature, self-motivated and organised
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel an advantage
